Middle Schoolers who have been baptized but not yet received First Communion will have an alternative approach to prepare for the sacrament. Instead of being enrolled in traditional OCIA, they will enroll in our EDGE program and attend four additional workshops to receive formation specific to First Communion. This will give the youth a chance to be involved in a youth group environment while also learning more about their faith.

Where will the workshops be held? The workshops will be held in the Gathering Area where Edge usually takes place.
What happens at a workshop? The workshops will provide additional information regarding the sacraments of reconciliation for the fall semester and First Communion in the spring semester. The format we will follow includes some time for the youth to visit and an icebreaker style game. Afterwards we will have a teaching on the sacrament as we dive into what it means to be Catholic. The goal is to provide some dedicated time for these youth to ask questions and help them understand the sacraments they are preparing to receive. Attendance to all four workshops is mandatory for the youth to receive First Communion in the spring semester.
How do I register for Middle School First Communion Prep? To register for Middle School First Communion Prep, please register for our regular EDGE Middle School Youth Group and be sure to select that your child has not yet received First Communion. This will prompt you to acknowledge the four mandatory workshops, as well as to upload a copy of their baptismal certificate. You will then receive email reminders about our workshops, as well as any important information for your child's formation.
What if my child has not been baptized? If your child has not yet been baptized, they will instead enroll in traditional OCIA and attend weekly sessions on Sundays from 11:00-12:30 PM.
