Respect Life Focus for March: Celebrating Human Life and DignityEvery human person possesses an infinite dignity, inalienably grounded in his or her very being, which prevails in and beyond every circumstance, state, or situation the person may ever encounter. This principle, which is fully recognizable even by reason alone, underlies the primacy of the human person and the protection of human rights. In the light of Revelation, the Church resolutely reiterates and confirms the ontological dignity of the human person, created in the image and likeness of God and redeemed in Jesus Christ. From this truth, the Church draws the reasons for her commitment to the weak and those less endowed with power, always insisting on “the primacy of the human person and the defense of his or her dignity beyond every circumstance.”

Our Lenten challenge is to recognize and respect the dignity of each human being, in whose nature the image of our Creator is reflected. Will you join us?Week 1: Recognize Dignity in Yourself- Challenge: Each day, look in the mirror and pray: "Lord, help me see Your image in me. Forgive my self-doubt or pride."
- Reflection: How does sin obscure God's image in you? Go to Confession early in Lent.
- Act: Write a gratitude list for your unique gifts as imago Dei.
Week 2: See Dignity in Family & Loved Ones- Challenge: Intentionally affirm one family member daily (e.g., "I see God's love in your kindness").
- Fast: From criticism or taking them for granted.
- Act: Perform a small act of service at home without complaining or being asked.
Week 3: Extend Dignity to the Difficult- Challenge: Identify someone who challenges you (coworker, neighbor, online). Pray for them daily: "Lord, they bear Your image. Help me see it."
- Fast: From judgment, anger, or avoidance.
- Act: Offer forgiveness, a kind word, or listen without interrupting.
Week 4: Dignity for Those Who Are Suffering- Challenge: Pray the Rosary (or a decade daily) for an end to suffering, the resolution of difficult situations, and for those who are tempted by despair.
- Fast: From one unnecessary purchase or indulgence, and redirect the savings/time as almsgiving.
- Act: If possible, visit or call someone who is homebound or volunteer your time in service to others. Avoid dehumanizing language about the suffering and the marginalized.
Week 5: Dignity in the Stranger- Challenge: Notice God's image in people you pass daily (cashier, driver, passersby). Smile, wave, or greet them.
- Reflection: Meditate on Christ’s Passion – He fully reveals and redeems the imago Dei, even in suffering. Christ died for all.
- Act: Participate in Stations of the Cross, focusing on how Jesus affirms dignity in the marginalized.

The Dignity of Human Life
Mission: The goal of the Holy Trinity Respect Life Ministry is to promote and encourage the Holy Trinity community regarding the value of human life from natural conception until natural death through prayer and education.
The USCCB articulates: “As Catholics, we are called to cherish, defend, and protect those who are most vulnerable, from the beginning of life to its end, and at every point in between.”
Pope St. John Paul II’s The Gospel of Life indicates that the Gospel of Life is at the heart of Jesus’ saving message to the world. In taking on human flesh, dwelling among us, and sacrificing his very life for our redemption, Christ reveals the profound dignity of every human person. This God-given dignity does not change with our stage of life, abilities, level of independence, or any other varying circumstance. Rather, it is rooted in the permanent fact that each of us is made in the image and likeness of God, created to share in the very life of God himself. The human person is a “manifestation of God in the world, a sign of his presence, a trace of his glory”. And we must reflect this truth in how we act and how we treat one another.
In the words of Fr. Rodolfo: “In your families, in your workplaces, in our community, let us be known as those who embrace love, build bridges, not barriers. Let us imitate the example of the first Christian communities, “the community of believers was of one heart and mind” (Acts 4, 32).
